FORMAT
Yogic Studies and Teacher Training Courses are offered in various formats to best serve our students and the course material. Most days involve 12 hours of programs; opening and closing days are often shorter.
- Intensives involve all the on-site classes being delivered over consecutive days (housing is available). This option works well for distance students, those interested in experiencing an ashram-style environment, and those who prefer to complete the classes in one go.
- Split Intensives break the on-site classes into 2 segments. Attendance is required at both segments. This reduces the amount of vacation time needed by many and provides face-to-face interaction and support from teachers and peers during the course period.
- Weekenders spread the classes over three separate weekends. This option works well for those with limited vacation time, local students, and those who prefer more time to digest the class lessons.
ON-SITE CLASS DATES
All classes are held at the Atma Center or at its nearby residential facility.
HOME STUDY
Each course has a home study portion to consolidate the knowledge gained during the on-site classes. For Yogic Studies, this portion includes a home yoga practice, reading and quizzes, and short assignments. The material for Yogic Studies 1a, 1b, and 1c comprises 10 weeks total, but one or two week-long breaks may be incorporated (depending on holidays, etc.) to slightly increase the overall length of the home study portion. For Teacher Training, home study incorporates student teaching under the close guidance of a mentor. There are also assignments related to becoming a professional instructor such as course planning, developing a marketing strategy, and student support skills.
THREE WAYS TO PARTICIPATE IN YS 1 MODULES
We understand that not everyone has the resources or interest to undertake a complete module. We offer 3 options for participating in Yogic Studies 1:
- Home Practice Course is a perfect option for those who can not commit to the full-day schedule and/or are mainly interested in developing an individual yoga practice. Home Practice students come for the early morning practical classes and reviews, receive the home practice log and CDs for the course, get personalized weekly feedback from a mentor teacher, and are eligible to attend some of the other Yogic Studies classes. This option is available for Yogic Studies 1a and 1b. Investment: $300.
- Auditing allows a student to attend all the Yogic Studies classes and receive all the home study materials. Students do not have to submit home study assignments nor take the final assessments at the end of the module. A great choice for students who are interested in deepening their knowledge but do not have the time to complete the home-study section. This option is available for Yogic Studies 1a, 1b, and 1c. Investment: $400.
- The full course, which includes an intensive period of theoretical and practical classes, follow-up home study, weekly feedback from senior teachers, assessments, and a certificate of completion. Those planning on participating in Yogic Studies 2 or Teacher Training need to complete the full course. This option is available for Yogic Studies 1a, 1b, and 1c.
ENROLLMENT DEADLINE AND DISCOUNTS
On the enrollment deadline, the Course Coordinator and Education Director review the pool of applicants and housing requests to determine the viability of the course. Those who wish to apply after the course deadline must contact the Course Coordinator to determine if there are any spaces left in the course. There is a $50 late fee for those applying after the enrollment deadline.
Applications must be accompanied by a minimum of $200 as a deposit. The rest of the investment is due before the course begins. For each calendar month before the course enrollment deadline that an application and full payment are received, there is a 10% discount off the Standard Module Fee, up to a maximum of $300. For example: the deadline for enrollment for the Yogic Studies 1c course that begins on October 25, 2008 is September 25. If you apply and pay in full by August 25, you save 10% ($80) off the Standard Fee of $800, which means you pay a total of $720. If you apply and pay in full by July 25, you save an additional $80, paying a total of $640. If you apply and pay by June 25, the fee is $520. If you apply and pay any time before May 25, 2008, you receive the maximum discount and pay only $500.
